What Are Lighting Scenes? 

In a lighting control system, scenes are customizable settings for groups of lights and motorized shades that you can activate anytime—or automate to follow a schedule. For instance, you can create a “Favorite” scene that sets your recessed lights to 50 percent brightness and a warm tone while the wall sconces dim to 40 percent brightness in a pure white shade. You love how the lighting looks this way, so you can activate it again and again by tapping the “Favorite” button on your app or wall keypad. 

How Do I Create Scenes? 

If you own a Lutron lighting system, open the Lutron app on your phone and select the ‘Scenes’ tab. From there, press ‘Add A Scene,’ input a name, and select the connected LED fixtures or smart window shades you'd like to include. These lighting fixtures may all be in the same room or across the house. On the next screen, slide the brightness levels for each light and choose the ideal lighting colors. 

How Can I Control Scenes? 

Scenes can be accessed in the Lutron app and on customized wall keypads. You can also use a handheld remote or voice control to activate scenes if that feels more convenient. Want a certain lighting scene to occur automatically each day? What Are Scenes Ideas I Can Try? 

Need a little inspiration to get started? Here are some handy lighting scenes to use: 

• Good Morning: Motorized shades rise, and specific lights brighten to start your day. After two hours, by the time you’ve left the house, the lights automatically turn off. 
• Afternoon: It gets dark earlier during Illinois winters, and your lights can independently brighten to a warm, golden hue in the afternoon. 
• Dinner: Create the perfect mood lighting with warm, amber-hued lights around the table. 
• Movie Night: The room darkens in the living room or theater, leaving only just enough light by the floor to navigate safely. 
• Home Office: Working from home? Light sensors can automatically turn on lights if it becomes too dark and lower shades if there’s glare.
